Ring Energy is seeking an Electrical Engineer to support and help manage electrical power, instrumentation, controls, and automation infrastructure across our Permian Basin operations. This role partners closely with production engineers, facilities engineers, operations personnel, and I&E technicians to deliver safe, reliable, practical, and well-documented solutions for upstream oil and gas facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, maintain, and apply electrical, instrumentation, controls, and automation standards and engineering best practices.
- Prepare technical specifications and scopes of work for electrical equipment, instrumentation, control panels, automation hardware, materials, and services.
- Interpret and communicate applicable electrical codes, safety requirements, and company standards to Operations and project teams.
- Coordinate electrical power-system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective-device coordination, arc flash, voltage drop, motor starting, harmonics, and power-factor analysis, using SKM, ETAP, or comparable tools.
- Support the design, installation, startup, and troubleshooting of ESPs, high-horsepower motors, VFDs, capacitor banks, reclosers, transformers, panels, and related equipment.
- Interpret and work from P&IDs, electrical schematics, control narratives, loop drawings, I&E plans, cause-and-effect matrices, and vendor documentation.
- Specify process instrumentation and recommend control-system hardware, communications architectures, and integration solutions.
- Support field installation, commissioning, functional testing, startup, and ongoing optimization of electrical and automation systems.
- Diagnose field operating issues, lead root-cause and failure analyses, and implement sustainable corrective actions.
- Coordinate utility service, metering, deduct allocations, power-quality matters, and billing analysis.
- Manage technical records and inventory for transformers, panels, motors, drives, instrumentation, controls, and spare equipment.
- Coordinate internal transfers of electrical and automation equipment and verify suitability for the intended application.
- Ensure all work complies with company safety expectations and applicable environmental and regulatory requirements.
Education, Experience, and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related technical field; equivalent directly relevant experience may be considered.
- Five or more years of electrical, instrumentation, controls, or automation experience supporting upstream oil and gas facilities.
- Working knowledge of low- and medium-voltage distribution, grounding and bonding, hazardous-area classification, motor controls, VFDs, instrumentation, and control-panel design.
- Experience with PLC, RTU, SCADA, HMI, industrial communications, telemetry, and remote field automation.
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, one-line diagrams, electrical schematics, loop drawings, panel drawings, and control-system documentation.
- Strong troubleshooting, project coordination, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively with engineering, field operations, maintenance, vendors, utilities, and contractors.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, and move safely through outdoor and industrial facility environments.
- Ability to work around elevated noise levels, moving equipment, and varying weather and temperature conditions.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment for assigned duties.
- Ability to travel approximately 20% to field locations for assessments, planning, commissioning, troubleshooting, and project execution.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements.
